Despite its name, the garbage disposal should not take the place of your garbage can. There are certain items you should avoid tossing into the disposal such as:

• coffee grounds
• chicken or fish bones
• nuts
• oatmeal
• egg shells
• potato peels, just to name a few.

Working the garbage disposal too hard can result in clogging issues that can lead to improper drainage and cause potential water damage in your kitchen.
